About the 2023 AoDR Film Festival

The Academy of Death Racers Festival is an international online film festival celebrating the best short films of the year and promoting widely available screenings for the public. The second AODR Festival will be held from the 6th – 22nd January 2023.

Whilst one of the aims of the Academy of Death Racers is to help as many people as possible watch every film nominated for an Academy Award in every category before the Oscars ceremony, we also want our community to be exposed to other interesting, thought-provoking content which can sometimes be very difficult to access.

The 2023 AoDR Festival will have 4 competitive strands, the winner of each receiving a cash prize of $125 apiece for excellence in the following categories:

  • Animated short film
  • Documentary short film
  • Live action short film
  • Film with LGBTQ+ theme

In addition, a $100 prize for Audience choice will be awarded to the film given the highest rating by the attendees of the festival, with $50 awarded to second and third-place films.

Selected filmmakers will also be given the opportunity to partake in live Q&A or panel sessions as part of the festival.

Winners will be announced in an online ceremony to culminate the festival.

AoDR Festival FAQ

There is no cost for submitting entries.

No – whilst it would be great if you’re happy to premiere your film at our festival, there is no expectation for films to have their first screenings at the AoDR Festival or to sign over any exclusivity period.

We are currently in the final stages of developing a bespoke and secure streaming service which will offer excellent usability for our audiences without compromising a film’s security.

With advanced anti-downloading capabilities and DRM encryption, streams will also include transparent data that can be used to identify the source of any screen recording without forcing large watermarks to appear and spoiling filmmakers’ perfect mise-en-scene!

If you have any questions about this before submitting your film, please contact [email protected]

Great question – we may show some out of competition films as part of a block curated by the Festival Directors
